With its eclectic mix of people, shops and special events, Eastown is a great place to get involved. There is a large amount of activity that goes into making Eastown a better place for businesses, residents and visitors and almost all of it is volunteer! If you want to help out, here a few ways!
Become a Member of the EBA or ECA
One of the first ways to get involved is to become a member of the Eastown Business Association (EBA) if you are a business owner, or the Eastown Community Association (ECA) if you are a resident. More information can be found in the Become a Member section.
Join a Committee
The EBA has several different committees set up to spread the responsibilities and to try and utilize people's abilities where they are strongest. These committees are always happy to invite new members and fresh ideas! The committees and description of what they aim to accomplish are as follows:
EBA Membership Committee
- Encourage and secure membership in the EBA among property owners, business owners, and business managers located in the Eastown Business District. (Memberships may include requests from business or property owners in contiguous neighborhoods; such requests are subject to board approval.)
- Provide personal welcomes to new businesses; deliver EBA Membership Packets
- Maintain EBA Membership Database
- Conduct annual Membership Drive (usually between December and February)
EBA Marketing Committee
- Plan annual group activities for Business District during Holiday Shopping period in December and other
- Maintain EBA's website so it functions as a current resource for business district information and activities.
- Develop and identify opportunities for property and business owners in Eastown to facilitate broad-based marketing of Eastown.
EBA Streetscape Committee
- For the purpose of enhancing and maintaining an attractive and pedestrian-friendly retail center, this committee is responsible for initiating, designing, and implementing streetscape projects for the Eastown business area. Â This committee works in coordination with members of the Eastown Community Association on joint activities.
- Identify needs and projects to enhance streetscape, for example: bicycle parking, clear signage to parking areas, street furniture, garbage cans, cigarette butt containers, and other pedestrian amenities.
- Identify needs and projects to enhance the "greening of Eastown", e.g. design and planting of flowers, trees, shrubs, etc.Â
- Provide coordination for streetscape projects.
- Work toward implementation of the Eastown Streetscape Masterplan.
- Arrange and oversee contracted landscape maintenance of Business District.
EBA Annual Special Events Committee
- Coordinate and work with members of the ECA on three annual Eastown events:
- Wilcox Park Picnic
- Bizarre Bazaar
- Eastown Streetfair
EBA Administrative and Communications
- Prepare and monitor budget and all fiscal activities
- Facilitate communication amongst EBA members through email, website, other
- Prepare agendas and complete minutes for EBA Board and General Membership meetings
- Prepare letters and other requested communications on behalf of EBA Board
