Thanks to Amber Kilpatrick, Eastown Community Organizer!!!
Please join me in thanking Amber for her work in Eastown as our Community
Organizer the last 2+ years. In this time Amber has forged some amazing
bonds with residents, business owners and city officials. She has seen
residents take back their streets from criminal offenders; seen families
come together to support neighbors in crisis; seen brown space turn to green
space, new businesses grow and thrive, and volunteers swarm the ECA with an
unwavering fury! Amber has also helped the EBA with many a project and has
always offered a balanced and steady level of support to Eastown.
Her last day with the ECA is April 27. Amber is taking a full time position
as ‘Yoga Geek’ at the Funky Buddha on Lake Drive SE and plans to stay
involved in Eastown. Thanks Amber, and glad you won’t be far!

Grand Rapids, MI, March 28, 2011 (Bazzani Associates) –
Bazzani Associates announces the historic renovation of the Kingsley Building in Eastown, located at 1415 Lake Drive.  Bazzani has entered into an agreement with the owner group to re-develop and lease the retail storefronts on the first floor – available Fall 2011.
Erected in 1927, the five-story building was designed by renowned architect George S. Kingsley and built for the Grand Rapids Storage & Van Co.  The building, located at 1415 Lake Dr. SE at the corner of Robinson Rd., is the former headquarters of Zondervan.
Up to 14,000 SF of first floor retail space will be offered with this historical rehab – hidden from view since 1954.  The first floor spaces feature dramatic 16-foot ceilings with beautiful historic storefronts.
“This art deco façade has not been seen by the general public in almost 60 years.  I think people will be amazed once we open this up”, said Bazzani.”  Baird Hawkins will be handling leasing duties for Bazzani Associates.  Mr. Hawkins said, “This will bring thousands of square feet of new retail to Eastown on one of the best streets in the city.”  “This new retail mix will connect the Eastown district and enhance an area of Grand Rapids with the highest walk ability scores, said Bazzani.”  This new project follows Bazzani’s Phoenix Building located at 1500 Wealthy in Eastown.  “These kinds of projects act as catalysts in a neighborhood.  They create excitement and new investment.  They also create long-term value for the City by increasing the tax base and creating new jobs, said Hawkins.” ###
