The EBA and ECA contracted with artist Reb Roberts to make the Utility boxes around the Eastown business area a little more our style. We are very happy with his artwork and think it looks great! Reb’s art on the utility boxes in Eastown business district was funded by the Eastown Action Committee. The EA is comprised of Eastown Business Association and Community Association board members, and Eastown residents. Thanks Reb! Also, below is a letter from Reb:
I am so grateful to Eastown! They have always been the community that has taken leaps in new directions. The business leaders and neighbors have embraced individuals like me to add some color to an already colorful destination.
Having the opportunity to create the banners and now the art on the utility boxes is a testimony to the power of original ideas.
Art can be a part of a sustainable urban environment. Often the graffiti left around the neighborhoods is temporary and not intended to enhance our urban landscape. With some true collaboration neighborhoods and artists can work to incorporate original ideas into an art filled city.
What an opportunity Eastown has presented to all of Grand Rapids…. art as the next truly urban frontier.
Thank you all, REB ROBERTS
